Well I spent Canada day weeding the garden, now if we could just get rid of the political weeds in Ottawa we'd be good to go.

Yup nothin like a six pack and a hoe to celebrate Canada day.

It is very sad. This is the first that I have heard of this fire, living without television or news papers has it's advantages but also it's downsides. I too live in the forest surrounded on all sides by miles and miles of oak and fire is a constant worry. My thoughts are saddened by this news and m...

I imagine that fire will be the only cure, the one saving grace is that my smokehouse is made of mortared up field stone with an insulated steel liner and as such is all but fireproof except for the cedar shakes on the roof . I figure that I might use something like an low volatility odorless paint ...

Life Stinks

I mean life really stinks. Last night the little woman gets woke up around two am to let the dogs out for a pee or at least that is what she thought they wanted. It wasn't. They headed for the smoke house yarping and snarling as only Dobermans can. Someone and I ain't saying who had left the door on...

Yeah thinkin about rebuilding mine too, the firebox is shot and the boiler leaks like a sieve and the little woman keeps bitchin about the smoke in the house, besides shoven the coal through that little tiny wienie slot in the front is just a pain. Might even upgrade to one of those new fangled mode...

fresh eggs take up to three weeks to develop a thin layer of air beneath the membrane between the shell and the egg white, making them much easier to peel. Who can wait three weeks? Then they are not fresh any more. When boiling "fresh" eggs, add 1/4 cup of salt to the boiling water and your fresh ...

Shucks, the best solution is just have patience and wait it out... but have plenty of refreshing liquid libation on hand to reduce the pain. Best Wishes, Chuckwagon Yeah Patience is a virtue and all that crap, but when it comes to salami it's easier to have enough liquid libation to induce a...

Here in Manitoba we have three types of oak Red, White and Scrub. The Scrub oak grows in the most inhospitable places and grows very slowly and is simply beastly hard and is the preferred wood for smoking in these parts as well as for fence posts. As far as the white and red oak I would tend to go w...
