I did almost the same exact thing years ago. I knew I needed to convert the recipe, but was in a rush and totally forgot to do it. I realized it the next day and threw it out. To me, it was not worth the risk for a $30 piece of meat.

Because the coils are internal, I think you SHOULD be fine to cut holes in the sides without having to worry about cutting anything other than insulation The heat dispersing coils usually run through the sides and top, both Lou and myself found out the hard way. Safest place is the door. If the sid...

I thought that's what that was. If the cooling coils are inside, then thats a pretty sure sign that a freezer or fridge won't have any way to exchange air. Some people add a dehumidifier, but that requires another controller. A cheaper solution is to add a filtered intake hole in one side of the fri...

I can't tell from the picture, what is that against the back wall at the top of the fridge? Is there no freezer portion to that fridge? The reason I ask is that if the freezer isn't auto-defrosting, then there won't be any exchange of air, which would explain why you can't get the humidity down. If ...

Hmm... I wonder if it actually does. I kind of doubt it. I checked on my kraut and I had the inner lid get pushed out of place by the gasses. So, I read some Amazon reviews, and it seems that this is a common problem and that unplugging the center valve fixes the problem. So, I've had the center unp...

Honestly, I wondered that myself. They must just escape past the seal. But then there's another seal around the outside cover and that one seems like it would be air tight.

What befuddles my mind is how there is so much food available for free yet most people will not take advantage of this and put it up. I would think that many people, myself included, don't know where to find this free food. Aside from road cabbage, that is.... Can only speak for here. Here, its eve...

I'm curious as to how much of a difference it makes to use late fall cabbage - if you would like to read that topic from beginning that you will have answers why we are using fall cabbage. Thanks, but I've read the thread and understand why to use fall cabbage. I meant that I'm curious to taste the...

I've never had bigos. Actually, I had never even heard of it until now. I looked at a few recipes online and it sure sounds good. I recently finished the last of my kielbasa, so I may have to bump that up to near the top of my list of sausages I need to make. I always tend to give too much away to f...

Thanks. They make them 7x bigger than mine, but this should be adequate for me, as I live alone and don't eat a whole lot of sauerkraut. I'm just hoping that it works as well as it's supposed to, as far as keeping the smell to a minimum. I'm curious as to how much of a difference it makes to use lat...

I didn't have time to make it last night, so it became tonight's project instead. I went with the 1.6 gallon model. From what I read, it should hold about three heads of cabbage. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff210/MatterOverMind__/C1_zpsceacr3lx.jpg I removed the outer leaves and then quartere...
