It also depends on what you purchase. I've been paying around $4/lb for bellies but getting duroc or berkshire. Similarly I've been paying $3+ per lb for shoulders... and these are wholesale prices...

do you have any of the big box stores such as costco or Sam's club or the like? My local place normally has 130-150# on display at any given time in 2 butt packs. Recently I've opened an account at a local wholesaler and I've been purchasing in 60# cases.

I moved away from chips and have had great success with the a-maze-n smoker. There's no reason you can't have smoke generator and heat from separate units.

I get the mustard seeds at either a middle eastern market or bulk section of my local health food store. I just finished up the first batch and I'm ready to try batch #2. I'll try adding more honey on the next go-round.

it's typically a reimbursement. Lots of friends and family know I make it and I'm too poor to just give the stuff away so they reimburse my cost for ingredients and I get the practice.

Oh and I've been putting some away for the pending zombie apocalypse. :shock:
