Usula, how long does the scent last? I'm sure it's something you look forward to every year. Where in South America were you? I just looked on a census from 2011 (can't find anything newer) and it says around 52,000. My husband disagrees and says it's more like 80,000... I'm a freelance graphic desi...

Ursula , will you tell us what those beautiful violet flowers are on that bush? They are terrific. And DelNorte ... the old bridge is incredible. There were some "brains" in that project eh? But Del Norte, I fear you have fallen off yer' hoss and landed on yer' head! You wrote: I miss snow so much,...

As promised: Two views from our terraza. (Yes, those are power lines, a 220-240 range. Big companies can get away with not conforming to safety laws. We lost our beloved dog on these lines and got nowhere with the power company to rectify the danger. There is a fence now on the wall. We paid for it....

Ursula - what a beautiful place!! And I am so envious of your garden. We hope to one day have a place in the country to start the lifestyle of sustainability. Nothing like growing your own fruits and vegetables, knowing what they've been exposed to, and tasting the quality as well. jbk101 - I miss s...

ssorllih and Krakowska thanks a lot for all of this info! I checked out the cottage cheese making link ssorlih, but it has two down falls for me: Rennet and culture. I haven't found that here yet and at this moment I'm exhausted looking for things. Maybe I'll try finding it at a later time. The reci...

DelNorte, how about using some cottage cheese? Press it in a cheese cloth and let it drain. Rick, cottage cheese does not exist here. I'm sure if I tried describing it to a local they'd give me a super dumbfounded look... I might have to investigate what it takes to make homemade cottage cheese. It...

If anyone knows of resources in Uruguay (I know, I know, everyone is hearing Homer Simpson right now as he looks at a globe or you are thinking "Where's that?" ) I'd be super appreciative of getting the info. It's very difficult to find spices and curing salts. Ok, I've not found the curing salts. S...

I been a papermaker for the last 37 years. At the mill I work at we make newsprint paper. When I started there it was called Great Lakes Paper and has since gone through at least seven name changes. At one time we had 3 paper machines running and 1500 employees at the mill but do to the internet an...

Oh this is my kind of place! Not only have I found a place that is a great resource for smoking and sausages, but I found a Pierogi thread. Ever since I can remember everyone in the family made them. My great grandmother migrated from Yugoslavia as a teen and I'm sure that's where everyone go...

Del norte means in Spanish, of the north. I'm from the USA and presently living in Uruguay. Since I'm from the northern hemisphere and the northern part of the US, I thought it fitting. Nothing spectacular or funny behind the name. Guess I'll have to make up for it in sense of humor and wit... I can...
