There are only 2 abbatoirs East of Melbourne that kill pigs. Gathercoles at Carrum Downs and Gordyns at Sale. I have used Gordyns before but kill my pigs at home now. I doubt whether you will be able to import pigs blood due to quaratine laws. You are welcome to take blood next time i kill skme of mine but next lot may not be till June.

Cheers

Hey Steve, I'm always looking for piglets for the spit. Who would you recommend in the NE suburbs?

Don't mind a bit of deer hunting either.

Hi Ant, and welcome to the forum
I dont really know anyone in that area, although i do know there are people breeding pigs in the Yarra Valley. I often use farmstock.com.au or gumtree to sell and buy pigs. If these dont produce results then type "piglets for sale " into google.
Good luck

For those seeking cultures for salami and cured meats I see that Smoked and Cured are now selling TPX and bactoferm 600 amongst other cultures on their online shop

http://www.smokedandcured.com.au/bactof ... d_search=0

I met the new owners at the Melbourne shot show last month. This is the retail side from Misty Gully Smokehouse. They will be stocking quite a few new products.

Salami season is here now. Will be killing a couple of pigs at the end of the month for salami and some beautiful snags. Hope everyone doing salami this year has plenty of delicious goodies to try afterwards

It pays to compare prices on cultures for sale in Australia. I found the best prices at Master Butchers in Adelaide. www.mblsa.com.au
Bactoferm 600 mould culture $ 17.00
F 1 culture $ 13.60
FRM-7 culture $ 13.60
T-SPX culture $ 12.90
Starter Biobak Ultra Plus $ 15.45
All their other prices for natural casings to beef middles or bungs are available and
very competitively priced.
It's amazing how much of these items you can fit in a Postal bag.
If we don't give these guys some of our business, they might stop stocking these items and we will all be paying $ 28.00 for cultures.
Look up their pricelist. 1. go to Food ingredients. 2. Smallgoods ingredients 3. Meat cultures.
It's winter now and salami time. stock up. I will be putting in a decent order next week.
Good Luck.
Jan.
