I have the Auberins plug-n-play single probe controller.
They're extremely accurate.

Hey Randal, if it gets the job done, who cares what it looks like?
Hmmmm... let's see...
The digital Bradley makes smoke.
Your Sanford & Son... uh... makes smoke!
If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it probably needs more time on the grill! :D

Isn't there a song line about a ten dollar horse and a forty dollar saddle? Isn't there something just a little ironic about smoking a twenty dollar piece of meat in a five hundred dollar smoker?

I sure wish that I could cough up enough cash for one of these from the SausageMaker.

Bob, i've never seen one in person, and I'm sure they're nice but the prices tag ($$$) quickly persuaded me to look elsewhere.

I have plans in the coming months to begin building a smokehouse out back. I want to build one that's tall enough to allow me easy access to whatever I hang, and large enough to comfortably hold at least 25 pounds of sausages. My wife says I need a taller smoker. Being 6'5" & having to bend down to load & unload my current smoker is a real pain in the back...

I came across this image of a DIY smokehouse, and it not only is an adequate size, but more important, it gains points for having a high Wife-Acceptance Factor.

Now I just need to find the right location upon which to build.

I've been to the SausageMaker's store in Buffalo and saw the smoker firsthand, they're built like a tank.
You're right though, the price is quite high, although I would expect it to be a lifetime investment. 30+ years.
I love the looks of the smokehouse, but, unfortunately, I couldn't get away with having one where I live.
Maybe when I get out of this disaster of a place and permanently back to north Jersey in a few years.
Godspeed!

Kevin, There are two things about the smoker in the picture, First it doesn't appear to be anchored to the ground. A strong wind could knock it down. The second is that they used beautiful lumber and then didn't use stainless steel fasteners. That explains the dark sreaks down below each nail.

Ross, the structure is 3/4 ply with cedar planks to make it pretty. I agree that using SS fasteners would have prevented the 'nail drip.'

In my area, we get strong afternoon winds. So when I get around to building something akin to what's pictured, it will be securely anchored to the ground.

I'd love to have a smoker like that in my back garden!

Of course with smoke out the stack and some hams and sausage being brought up to IMT.

Kevin,

I've got a Bradley that I never thought I could outgrow. I would love to have something like that outhouse smoker in my backyard. I just completed an addition to my garage that included a hobby room replete with counters, cabinets, and a power vent to exhaust the smoke from the Bradley outside.

Yet something like that just pulls at me. :o

Live the dream!

Jim

I'm dreamin' at this point too.

My current big smoker (the Masterbuilt EXWide Gas) is a big box, but the last big batch I did (20 pounds plus) really was cramped, and it was a pain-in-the-back for me load & unload.

Image

I'll also need to check with the local codes regarding building smoking structures. The whole San Francisco Bay Area is pretty strict when it comes to air-quality standards and residential smoke emissions ('No Burn Days' are on the city calendars). Too many people, too little air, I suppose...

Another alternative to a 'built-in' smokehouse, the ability for one to be mobile may have an advantage.

I do like the height (interior access) of this one. Plus E-Z construction...

Looks like smoked bats to me.....

Hi John

Sorry, I haven't built one yet!

I was simply posting images (for feedback) on a couple designs that intrigued me.

Once I get to the point of construction- this summer hopefully-I'd be happy to share the plans of what I come up with.
