Homemade Sausage Making

I'm curious as to what measuring system most of you use, measuring spoons or a scale, or both?

I did a little recon in the kitchen and found that we (my wife) has a hodge podge of measuring spoons that I really don't trust and am thinking about getting a quality set of spoons. Also, in my reading, one author recommended using a scale as the coursness of spices will affect volume but weigh is weight. Any suggestions on a scale?

I am new and just want to do it right the first time. (maybe a little to anal)

I have at least 3 different sizes of teaspoons, soup and desert spoons here.
Being an ex European, I prefer to go with metric weights and have several small scales in 1 gram and smaller graduations.

I was also born in Europe, but using scale is much more precis no matter what.
Try to weight different kind of salt by the spoonful, or by any other volume, and you'll see why.

I use scales mostly but a good set of spoons can't hurt in anyones kitchen.

Scales are the best and most accurate way to go.
Most recipes today are given both in volume and weight measurements.

You will probably want two scales one for the heavier items like meat(ex 0 to 20 lbs) and a smaller more sensitive gram scale ( 0 to 200 grams sensitive to .01 gram.

There are literally thousands of reasonably priced scales on EBay.

I'm in the same predicament. Amazon has a lot. I'm leaning toward American Weigh brand. Very good reviews and cheap, almost too cheap. Can anyone recommend a good brand or price range. Thanks.

What you find is that almost 95% of hobbyist scales are made in China. The smaller scales 0.01 gram in Devo's photo is Chinese made. I have 2. They have lasted me now for about 8 years bought on Ebay from China direct. All my other scales came from Aldi.

I have a couple of the Chinese "jeweller's" scales which weigh i tenths of a gram. They work great, and cost less than 10 bucks each, including shipping from China. The "American Weigh" brand scales are also made in China but patriots and cowboys will happily pay more for them.
