Spirytus

Post by Kijek » Thu Mar 01, 2018 12:18

I was looking at the alcohol section in Wedliny Domowe web site and saw "Spirytus"
Can any of my Polish brothers out there help me get a bottle?

Grain alcohol is available at most Ct Package stores. If you want the stuff that is imported from Poland not sure. I would make a few phone calls to P. stores in New Britain. You would actually be closer to Greenpoint Brooklyn

IMO it is possible to get it in Packed stores in Bridgeport, Stamford. Most packed stores in Mass. carry it.

Spirytus is not a brand name but type of alcohol which is ethanol distilled a number of times and with an alcohol content of 95-96%. Polmos is the most popular and available brand, but there are others.

Spirytus has been known to be the strongest alcohol in the world @96% followed by the US Everclear @ 95. The die hard Poles say that it tastes better than the US brand, however once you start getting to that high level of alcohol it becomes a dare to drink it vs trying to determine the taste. I've used both for making infusions and didn't notice any difference. So for me it comes down to price.

it becomes a dare to drink
That's what I remember about the stuff, daring people to do a shot of it.

The stuff I remember was from Poland, I think it's spelled similarly.
I gonna spell it the way it sounds, " Spititus " I'm sure that's wrong but that's how it sounds.

Reminds of reading Bulgakov's Master and Margarita when in university many eons ago.

"Is that vodka?" Margarita asked weakly.
The cat jumped up in his seat with indignation.
"I beg pardon, my queen," he rasped, "Would I ever allow myself to offer vodka to a lady? This is pure spirytus!"
― Mikhail Bulgakov, The Master and Margarita

Mr. Marianski is no Bulgakov when it comes to writing. In fact, I take out my red pen almost every time I read his prose. But then, he does know a thing or two about sausage making.

Somehow I get the feeling that maybe you, or BobK is Mr. Mariansk and is stead of answering all my stupid questions, you both convinced me to buy the book.
How many Porsches do you own now anyway?
