Smoked pickled eggs, pickled smoked garlic, smoked old cheddar, along with a few beers & onion crackers make more than an excellent snack while watching hockey. Sweet, pickled, smoked garlic cannot be beaten with a stick. It beats the snot out of pickled fresh garlic by an Alberta "bush mile"!!!!! The "war department" does it up all of the time now. Her family are Brit and had an aversion to both the taste & smell of garlic until I showed her how to use it....

smoked garlic
I had a "brain fart" a several months ago, deciding to throw some garlic in the smoker and giving it a try. Separate & peel several heads of garlic. What is your judgement on the outcome of the spice? I am grilling up a couple of "Alberta" rib steaks tonight for the "war department" and myself, with baby red potatoes and clover honey glazed parsnips & carrots. I have the privilege of having a friend who is an apiarist. His honey is purchased by ...

He will do it, but is rather hesitant at this time, because as he put it "knee & hip replacement is quite common, and the technology is quite advanced. I cannot say the same for ankles. The decision is you...

canned venison
This is my mother's canned venison recipe, all the way from sunny Saskatchewan, as I recall it. It goes back to when my grandparents immigrated to Canada. Dollars were short, and you had to be self sufficient. Trim meat of fat & "silverskin" and cube into 1/2 - 3/4" pieces. Pack semi tightly into ho...

When I was a young'un on the farm, butchering chickens was an annual ritual in September. My mother insisted that we have at least 80 chickens, of which half were roosters and the other pullets. The roosters were for meat, while the pullets provided the family with eggs, and as you describe, butcher...
