Upright Freezer at Best Buy

Post by bcboy » Tue Dec 29, 2020 16:45

Hello everyone, this is my first post here.
Here is a link to the freezer that I was thinking of purchasing for a curing chamber. I'm just starting out and was wondering if this would be a good size to start with? Will a freezer work just as well as a all fridge unit? Thanks again everyone for helping a newbie.
It's on sale too.

Welcome to the forum!
That is a manual defrost model. The frost free models work a lot better for chambers, removing moisture and circulating the air.

Hey bcboy welcome to the forum. Glad you found us. I agree with Bob, a manual freezer is not that well suited for dry curing. You will no doubt have constant high humidity and condensation problems. I retrofitted a standup freezer for a chamber, but it's a 17 cu. ft. frost free model. I think you might be better off with an used all fridge or frost free freezer.

Thanks guys for the welcome!! Look like I have found the best forum for making sausage and smoked meat on the web!

Thanks guys for the heads up!! I didn't even notice it was a Manual defrost. I assumed every new fridge or freezer would be auto defrost. Off the list is that unit.

So I'm wondering about automatic defrost models. Will one of these work or should I keep looking? I would like a all fridge model tho.

Auto defrost and frost free are the same thing, so yes.
