Thanks Chuckwagon. Before anyone decides to add pure sodium nitrite they MUST have the ability to weigh 156 milligrams of the chemical. That is the amount in 2.5 grams of cure#1. Each batch must be mixed at the time of use to avoid the problem of settling.

Markjass and Kiwi Hunter,
You guys should buy your ready made #1 and 2 cures together from an Australian supplier such as Redback Trading or Misty Gully here or buy in the US.
Look them up in Hyde Park in the AU and NZ Recources Corner.

Pure Nitrite and Nitrate are sold here in 25 kg bags as well but NOT to individuals as it can be deadly if used incorrectly according to the suppliers.
I prefer to buy ready mixed, another less worry to deal with.

Pure sodium nitrate is also a powerful oxiderizer when mixed with sulfer and powdered charcoal forms black gun powder.
