Hello All

Okay what manual vertical stuffer do you have and do you like it ? Tell me about it as in features or just the Brand model number and I can Google it .I want to purchase one !
Idealy I would go with an F.Dick but way too much money !

Would be nice if it was stainless.

Metal gears

I see some have plastic or resin gears ,are those any good ? I don't want something that is going to break down easily .
What capacity should I start with as in Litre / Pounds etc ? The two of us are meat eaters !
Have I missed anything ?
Thank You !

Princess auto has some decent sausage equipment. I have this one,all stainless, metal gears, holds 11 lbs. It's been working well for 4 years.

Definately F. Dick or one of the heavier duty ones sold by The Sausage Maker would be my choice. But I'm plugging along with a 11 pound capacity Chinese model I bought at Princess Auto. This stuffer is sold all over under different names. Not expensive, and Princess Auto will take it back at any time you are not happy with it. But what I really don't like about it, is that the cylinder won't stand on its own when removed from the frame of the stuffer. You have to build a stand, which is something I keep promising myself to do.

Edit: Willy beat me with his answer by a few minutes. That's the one I have!

The the shorter cylinder that stands alone when removed is also available at a lot of places now, also with metal gears. Not sure about availability North of the border. I also have the tall chinese stuffer and wish I had the short one, whichever one you get try to get one that comes with stainless tubes they are longer and thinner than the plastic ones.

If you pick up one of the stainless ones like the ones mentioned watch out for sharp edges on the frame. I have become very cautious where I grab it.

Hi Knifeman, I have the 15lb stuffer from Northern Tool. I can't say enough good things about this stuffer. I've had it for about 12+ years now and never ever had any issues with it, it a great work horse.
All metal gears, not nylon like most brands, all stainless steel, easy to set up and take down for clean up.
The price is good too, better then most other 15lb stuffers with cheaper parts.
I highly recommend this to all my friends looking for a stuffer.

I bought a 20lb stuffer from cabelas 18yrs ago and I pumped close to 200lbs a year of sausage and now last few years over 1000lbs a year. Absolutely no problems. Price is quite decent.

I also would have preferred for the stuffer to stand on a base when in operation, rather than being suspended on two bolts. The other consideration is having the crank on the back, rather than on the side. Mine is on the latter and I did get used to it, but I think that the former would be better. Devo has a good point about the sharp edges on the Princess Auto model, I learned that right after I bought it, but fixed the issue with a file.

I bought a 10L electric from china 40 watt, BIG mistake burned out the motor already
and I don't know how to get a replacement motor. I also remember reading here that
you snapped the bolts on your stuffer , I blocked out between the bottom of the stuffer
and the base plate. I did buy a crank stuffer from the TSM a few years back, thought the
electric with the foot switch was just what I needed I guess you get what you pay for :)

I use a 5# model like this stainless stuffer from Northern only with plastic gears. Used it for about seven years without any issues. I upgraded to stainless tubes and mounted it to a 1" thick plastic cutting board to make clamping and using it easier. I'm thinking unless you really crank it when it bottoms out, the plastic should be fine. I think I got it from TSM when I started figuring I would upgrade later but it works great and I have invested in other processing tools since.

I mostly do 10# batches or less and usually split the grind into a couple of recipes so a 5# works fine for me, and is easier on the cleaning.

Of course you can always go with something like this that does 35lbs. at a time. I'm sure Kirby is still making them.

When my son was 5 years old, he is now 14 and he could make snack sticks better than most LOL

I like that stuffer Devo, I also have the Dakota water stuffer. Although I like my 15lb crank stuffer, the water stuffer makes for great one person, one hand stuffing.
