I thought the Vacuum Sea was just west of the Mediterranean Sea, where you and Wally will be fishin' this winter if the beer and ice supply holds out! Are you going to use my canoe or take out the Bietzpaddlin'?

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it probably needs more time on the grill!

Hurry canes come and go
Irene came and shook some dead branches out of my trees and dumped about 6 inches of rain into a bucket and shut the lights out for a few hours and then went away. Everyone that I know was unharmed.

Hi Ross,
Hope everything is ok up your way after Irene passed through, I've been watching the updates on the news as they became available.
It missed us down here in South Carolina, you guys up north took a pretty good beating, but luckily Irene has been downgraded now. A bunch of rain and strong winds still remain, 6" of rain is a lot to dump in a short time span.
Best Regards
Ron

Wow, the latest news (Sun @ 8:30 PM) says there were 23 killed and 5 mil without power. What a nasty storm. We were glued to the TV all night hoping and praying for you folks. It's good to have the storm on the downside now. Stay healthy folks!

We are about a hundred miles inland and west of the storm track. Think about a severe thunderstorm that lasts for 12 hours and you get a good idea of what we had. The folks closer to the storm had it far worse. The wind force increases as to the square of the velosity. 70 MPH is twice as strong as 50 MPH.

Hey all
Checking in from NW Vermont. All is well here, but can`t say the same for the folks south of us. Folks in central VT got hit pretty hard with 50 - 70 mile an hour winds. The problem here, we have several brooks, streams and rivers here, that can explode into a raging river in no time, coming down from the mountains with heavy rains, in no time. In our location (where I live) we got 4" of rain, the folks in central VT received 7 - 8" in one day. Keep in mind, the rain and the rivers are running down hill into a town or village.
The local news reported that during the summer, we average 1" a month of rain.
It has been reported, that this is the worst flooding seen here in VT, in the past 80 yrs.
The wife and I prepared for the hurricane, I got the generator fueled up and ready, the wife made hurricane chocolate chip cookies, we gathered flash lights, and picked up everything around the yard. In the end, didn`t have to start the generator, Tammy`s hurricane cookies where a hit and all gone
Today the sun is shining and you would never guess we had bad weather yesterday.

Thanks for checkin' in Wally. I'm glad you are high n' dry. Ross fared well too. I'm just worried about some of the other folks that were in the higher water. Some of the photo coverage on the newscasts are pretty bone-chilling. There's one in particular (in your own Vermont), where a road is completely missing and nothing is left but a gulch full of rock. Ross Hill and I were PM'n all night and I know he's fine. I wonder about the folks in New York and down the coast too. Wish we'd hear from them. Glad you're ok Uwanna!
